Iris Eisenhardt

Real Name: Iris Eisenhardt

Codename: Smoke

Age: 18

Physical Description: Iris has long white hair, slate grey eyes, and a slender frame.

Personality: Iris started out as a fundamentally good child but morphed into, well, something else. She is the quintessence of someone with immeasurable personal power who has never hit the wall or been told “no.” Growing up, Iris’ father made a conscious effort to prevent her from turning out like her half-siblings, the Maximoff twins, by controlling every aspect of her existence, from life experiences to the people she encountered, while giving her everything and anything she desired. This type of life caused Iris to spend much of her time bonding with her father and inadvertently gaining some of his manipulative and controlling personality traits. Iris is a clever, sometimes conniving young woman, who has remained largely oblivious to her negative transformation. Over the years, she has become resourceful and deceitful, and has quickly become accustomed to the idea of using her powers to earn free passes in life. She has largely lost her sense of boundaries; after all, her powers are at her disposal, so why not use them? She exercises an attractive kind of control and has a powerful effect on other people. Both forceful and charismatic, she is good at finessing other people to get what she wants. She is very amiable and knows how to cozy up to people, while being able to develop casual relationships in a way that other people feel good about being directed. Incredibly self-disciplined and confident, Iris’s spoiled life and powerful nature has sent her in a direction her father never wanted for her.

Race: Mutant

Gender: Female

Alignment: Neutral

Powers: Iris is a mutant possessing the power of transubstantiation, enabling her to convert herself into smoke at will. At its most basic level, Iris is able to morph her entire body into a cloud of smoke, allowing her to move swiftly around her opponent as well as escape from enemies or potential captors. Being insubstantial, Iris can use this power to avoid injury. At a slightly more complex level, Iris is able to emit and manipulate smoke, without transubstantiating herself, to confuse her opponents on the whereabouts of her location. At its most extreme level, Iris is able to mind control other people by inserting smoke into others.

Special skills: Iris is her father's daughter. She is a skilled strategist and has more than a rudimentary knowledge of hand-to-hand combat. She possesses the normal human strength of a woman of her age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise.

Current Profession: Student/Resident

Background: Iris started out as a fundamentally good child but morphed into, well, something else. She is the quintessence of someone with immeasurable personal power who has never hit the wall or been told “no.” Growing up, Iris’ father, Max Eisenhardt (also known as Erik Lehnsherr, “Magnus,” or Magneto), made a conscious effort to prevent her from turning out like her half-siblings, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, by controlling every aspect of her existence, from life experiences to the people she encountered, while giving her everything and anything she desired. This type of life caused Iris to spend much of her time bonding with her father and inadvertently gaining some of his manipulative and controlling personality traits. Her father did not notice the change in Iris until one day when she demonstrated her ability to mind control a Brotherhood member by emitting smoke and inserting it into the individual. However, instead of having the reaction she had expected, her father was displeased by her actions. As time progressed, her father noticed more and more of the behavioral attributes possessed by the Maximoff twins beginning to manifest strongly in Iris. Iris’s spoiled life and powerful nature had sent her in a direction her father never wanted for her. The last push came when Iris was sixteen years old. The Acolytes, a sub-group of the Brotherhood, had split off from the Brotherhood and created their own mutant group, calling themselves Exalted X. This new mutant group, believing the Brotherhood was no longer remaining true to its original ideals, not only called for Brotherhood members to join them but also directly threatened her father, her family, and her. Exalted X claimed that her father had grown soft and used Iris as a prime example, claiming her father was keeping his own child from helping the collective of the Brotherhood achieve its goals. With her life threatened and being unable to tend to this new mutiny while attempting to properly raise his daughter, after long and careful consideration, her father met with the headmistress of the Xavier Institute to discuss Iris’ enrollment and protection at the school. Despite being considered rivals, there was a time when her father and the founder of the school, Charles Xavier, were close friends and confidants. Using this personal history, her father was able to come to an agreement with the headmistress in exchange for Iris’ immediate transfer to the Xavier Institute. When Iris discovered the news, she was quick to protest her father’s decision. However, he merely told her that his duty to her as a father meant taking her out of her current environment in order to ensure that she would remain safe and protected as well as become the young woman he had envisioned when she was born.
