Background: Jayden had a fairly normal childhood. She grew up on the coast of California, a true beach and waves sort of girl. She was raised by a single dad as an only childhood. She lost her mother to cancer around the age of six, so the few memories she has are mostly reinforced by stories her father had told her. In her early teens, she had quite a few close friends that she regularly spent her time with after school down by the beach. When she was 14, that's when she went from normal to a freak... at least in her mind. One day, down at the beach, she and her friends were enjoying the water when her skin started to feel itchy all over. She looked down to see tiny prickles covering her entire body. Confused and embarrassed, she quickly left the water, calling out to her friends over her shoulder that she needed to get home for dinner. By the time she was home, the spikes had retreated under her skin. A few days later, she was down at the beach with her father. When she was submerged in the water, the sharp sounds around her forced her to surface. As soon as she reached the surface, her hearing returned to normal. Later that night, she was getting ready for bed when she tripped and fell in her room, sending spikes out in all directions, blanketing her bedroom. Her screams caused her father to run to her room. When he entered the room and saw his only child, his beloved daughter, was a mutant, he ran over to her and hugged her, saying everything would be alright. The next day, after a few phone calls, a strange woman came to her home. She said her name was Cat, and that she was the headmistress at a school for gifted young people. Cat explained that Jayden had many gifts that could be controlled through training. Cat also guaranteed Jayden's safety at the Xavier Institute. Knowing the very real possibilities of harm if Jayden was discovered a mutant, her father agreed to enroll her at the Xavier Institute. Jayden was brought to the Xavier Institute and enrolled as a student. After showing promise in controlling her abilities, she was enrolled in the trainee program for future X-men.
